365 Day Project: 46

I had to take my daughter to work since my husband is working late tonight. It even hurts my stomach to drive. UGH, and it’s really starting to annoy me. By the hospital is a little junk/salvage yard that seems to be closed more than it is opened. I wanted to play with the editing filters in snapseed and perspective blue. I like the bright dramatic touch the end image has and the complementary color palette is warm even though the subject is cold (there’s a lot of snow). Happy Friday guys! I’m working on catching up on things from my bed 🙂

365 Day Project: 38

ANOTHER WINTER WEATHER WARNING! This time it was more sleet and icy rain than snow. I would take the snow ANY day and then tonight the temperatures are going to plummet again. This means that anything that is left on the road that is melted it’ll turn to ice. Add the temperatures being below 0° salt will not work. I know rambling but this only means that the roads are dangerous and I can’t scout a new building or subject so I had to creative here at the house.

I found it only fitting that when I asked my son for one of his action figures that he brought the snow yeti creature. PERFECT! I used a macro external lens and let me tell you, I can’t wait to work with this more in the spring. I took almost 100 different photos and found this one to be oddly mesmerizing. It’s like the yeti was caught in his natural habitat and with the little twiggy vine almost makes it seem like I was intrusive. What do you think?

I think I’ll also pick up a few action figures of my own for backups throughout the year. Yes? No?

365 Day Project: 26

This morning I completed my doodle comic for week 4 and it turned out better than I expected. I just hope that I get inspiration for my next comic. After that was done, it was time to run my Saturday errands IN the -°22F weather. It was awful. On the way home I saw these trees. Even though humans mutilated the branches so electric can run to houses it looked like it stood defiantly and grew wings. Oh, I also got a chance to use my 2x zoom lens on my phone. I need the EXTRA zoom lens. Ugh, it is what it is.

365 Day Project: 25

All I can say is at least I made my midnight deadline. It’s unbelievably freezing so I hate to admit that all I did was roll down the window and moved the car forward to capture this photo.  But, WOW! How did I get something to look so regal? This is actually a house that my husband and I made a bid on when we first moved to the state. I didn’t realize how much money was required to maintain a home like this and the rules. This house is located on a historic block and homeowners have a specific set of rules set by the town that need to be followed. It’s a good thing that we were outbid because I don’t do rules all that well.

This is going to be quick as I’m exhausted dealing with snow, work, kids, you know life in general. I’m not feeling too good about weigh-in tomorrow so I’m going to head to bed and sleep my worries away.

I have never wanted to throw my phone in a field so hard and far in my life! I just wanted to try and capture a decent sunset image. I swear this small town was purposely built to not see a decent sunset from ANY corner of its boundaries! I did settle on this one and was able to get a really bright complimentary palette. Hex codes for the colors are listed in order from left to right.

One Whole Year!

A year! I made it a year without smoking! Maybe I cheated by using Chantix but it worked for me. The dreams were hilarious! Now don’t get me wrong, there are times that I really want a cigarette. Like the times when my teen is tap dancing on my very last nerve. Or how about the times that I have chores crying with urgency to get done but my depression has a nice warm hug around me. Or even the times that I’m around people that are lighting cigarettes left and right and I’m sitting there holding a bottle of water like an adult (something that I wish I didn’t have to be at times).

I guess the point is, I had a goal a year ago and it’s been a year since I picked up a cigarette. I don’t have much in way of goals this year but focusing more on my new Norse heathen path, family, and maybe now and then get a doodle and some kind of writing done. Oh, and of course another job. But today, I’m just happy I made a year of something without quitting or giving up.

Have any of you completed a goal from a year ago? Either way, how do you feel about it? Are you going to try again? Are you going to try something else? Happy Monday everyone!

365 Day Project: 13

Today was a difficult day. Difficult being I could barely get out of bed. The argument from yesterday has turned me into a basket case. I only registered 600 some odd steps on my fit bit. I managed to get out and take a photo for my project. I really wish I had a zoom lens for my cell phone because I think it would’ve brought out more detail The subject was painted two summers ago but she’s really taken a beating. Even though she’s fading, if you look hard enough you can see the beauty before the elements took over. The color palette I think would fall under the complimentary genre. I’ll try harder tomorrow…I could really use some sun, support, something.

365 Day Project: 11

I found a little humor in my image. Being from Texas this is the equivalent to a southern tardis. Dr. Pepper is my Achilles heel and it’s hard to find in restaurants in my northern area. Until we can get the funds to get back south this is like a little oasis in a frozen tundra. I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried dramatic editing and I wish the framing had turned out better. Tomorrow is a new day and hopefully, it won’t be so cold. Have a safe Friday evening. The hex colors for my monochromatic color palette as always listed from left to right.

365 Day Project: 7

The weather here in Wisconsin (or at least my area) is SUPER icky right now. Cold, wet, rainy, and windy doesn’t exactly scream for me to get out of the car. I figured the only way to get better at taking photos at night with my phone is to get out there and do it! Trying to work with framing, composition and figuring out lighting options on my phone proved to be a difficult task. Especially when I’m trying to capture photos without someone calling the cops on me (yeah I live in that kind of town). I think this would be a monochromatic palette or Analogous. I’m not going to lie it’s giving me a bit of anxiety trying to figure out which one. The hex codes are below from left to right. Have a great night everyone!

365 Day Project: 5

I think I’m going to have to rearrange my calendar. Saturdays are the worst for me to try and get anything done because that is the day that my husband and I use to get chores and errands done. I’m going to start with my Day 5 of my 365-Day project. I finished the Skillshare class to help me better my cell phone photography. I have a couple more I want to watch and there are things that I would like to get. If you would like to help please buy me a coffee or search my Amazon wish list. Anything will help. Let’s move on.

So the class project wanted the students to photograph their town. This was tough because my town isn’t all that great. As in, when we get our stuff together we are moving out of this town. This image was the only one that I felt comfortable sharing. I was only comfortable going out and looking weird taking photos because my youngest daughter was there for support. The hex codes for my color palette choice is below from left to right.

365 Day Project: 4

Today I accomplished most of what I wanted to get done because I was in such a hurry to take today’s photo. I panicked because I was losing light. I have found a new excitement in this project’s objective trying to push myself to do more. Go outside my comfort zone and for this one I actually got out of the car! I took several photos but this is the one that I kept coming back to. I almost cried because what I tried WORKED! This is a puddle image!

I still have a long way to go and now I want to look into preventing graininess and better night cell photography. The hex codes are below and I think I nailed a split complementary color palette. Have a safe weekend everyone!

New Years *Realistic* Planning

WOW! 2019 already around the corner! I was looking through some of my posts from last year and I set the bar really high for myself throughout the ENTIRE year. I started A LOT of projects and FAILED at almost all of them. I analyzed what I did wrong. It was basically me reaching for the stars while working a 40-hour job and a full-time second job as wife and mother. I’m going to try and keep it simple. I want to be as successful as possible and ran across this article that suggests ‘why’ people are not successful with their resolutions.

First I needed to do some ‘house cleaning’ for my blog. My poor Fenton project didn’t really go anywhere but I didn’t delete the project altogether. I also removed ‘I Survived the A to Z 2018’ image from my sidebar. That was a brutal task but I proud of myself for completing it. I might participate again this year but that could be a no-no from the no-no resolution list. After the ‘house cleaning’ I read through the list again and need to make sure I do these things:

  1. Make goals specific and to include a time frame.
  2. Do not be overly ambitious (more than I can handle-umm…I’m notorious for that as Y’all well know)
  3. Believe that I can complete my goal
  4. Have some with instant gratification and/or results
  5. Have a record of progress (blog)
  6. Make the list

My goal list started out as basically every run of the mill resolution. I want to be happier, lose weight, reduce stress and be more creative. Sounds like a basic list that I would BOMB within a month. I already quit smoking and I’m currently working on losing weight. I decided to break things down a bit more:

  • Work on being happy
    -Unplug (no phone after 5pm)
-Do something that makes ME happy
  • Meet my goal weight this year
    -I have 22lbs to lose
-Eating healthy falls in this category (this isn’t a goal)
-Being more active also falls into this category (this isn’t a goal)
  • Write More
-Produce one story 50 words or more a week
    -Have deadline
    -Could be about anything
  • Continue learning Asatru and Heathenism
-Continue reading and participating in my kindred’s book club meetings
    -Study the Havamal
-Be mindful of Asatru dates of importance
    -Participate more with Kindred events.
  • Draw more
    -Create a simple comic character
    -Produce one comic weekly
    -Keep it simple
  • 365 Day Project
-Still, need to decide on a subject (HELP! I don’t know which one: create my own color pallets OR cell photography with the use of extra lenses. Opinions and thoughts are greatly appreciated!)
  • Express me more…be more social-ish
-Express my feelings and speak more

This seems like a lot but when I break it down, it really isn’t. Instant gratification comes from the daily project which also serves as another objective-portfolio 365-day project that I need. Writing more is something that I have slacked on A LOT! I have a deadline and a minimum word count. Drawing more will fall under last years goal of creating my own little comic. The difference is that I have a deadline and some criteria such as KEEP IT SIMPLE! Nothing to elaborate and I’ve already started simple sketching planning my character. Finding my happiness is through ALL these goals. Continuing my Asatru Heathen path brings me peace and helps me work on mindfulness. Unplugging is something that is greatly needed and will help me unwind at night. All of this ALSO needs a schedule. Without one I’m surely going to fail.

What are your resolutions this year? How are you tackling them to achieve some level of success?

The Decline of a Portfolio

First off let me just say making the holiday’s memorable for the kids SUCKS! Running around trying to find the perfect wreath, wondering if we need more lights, what’s for dinner?  All the questions and errands are tiring and compound that with deciding on what to feed these people is all around draining. If there was a magic elf that could just come in, read my mind, and make everything appear right where I want it PLUS make a dinner that EVERYONE will eat that would be great! Since there isn’t no such a thing I’m stuck pretending that I can do it. No, we haven’t put anything up but per our family tradition, it goes up the day after Thanksgiving.

bird singing in cageOutside of running pre-holiday errands, I started rebuilding my portfolio. OH MY OVERWHELMED! I did a little research and apparently what the new younger designers are doing 365-day projects. Umm…I couldn’t even do a 30-day project that I was SUPER passionate about! Does keeping my kids alive count? Or figuring out what to feed everyone for a year count? I did, however, realize how much my current employer has kept me stuck in one spot doing one thing. I haven’t worked on coding, websites, or really anything personally digital or for me. I have updated my website designing skills at ALL and so much has changed, obviously.

Then putting in what I do have to offer is a pain in the arse! Making sure all the important details are correct and images are formatted correctly then there is the whole hierarchy of how to organize everything! UGH! I thought that if I got up SUPER early, didn’t turn the TV on, I could have time but my son must’ve been able to smell me breathing downstairs. He was up too. My husband arranged for him to play at a friends house so I could have some time to myself but I’m nowhere near done. I’m hoping it’s dead at work so I can sneak an add and edit to my portfolio then there is the 365-day project. I also need to add ‘dream clients’ work. Basically, this is where I make up pretend clients and complete some branding projects. I would need to start paying monthly again for Adobe which is an expense that I just can’t do with the holidays. Sounds like I have some goals to make and crush!

  • 365-day project (I need ideas that pertain to graphic design)
  • Update Coding skills (enrolled in a few courses)
  • Add Google Ads certification (currently in the process-taking forever)
  • Get some freelance work

Here’s to a productive Monday one way or another. Going to try and stay positive and get this IMPORTANT task done (hopefully this week). Do you have any short-term goals? Happy Monday Y’all!

6 Word Story Day 31

I can’t believe I managed to keep this going for a full month! Usually, I’ll start strong and finish with ‘not so good’ and settled with ‘OK’. Not this month! Yes, this post is later than usual because I normally like to write first thing in the morning when the house is quiet before work but I overslept due to not feeling good. Got to work and immediately slammed. I did, however, jot down a sentence on my break and posting now during my lunch.

My world has opened up and I’m learning and discovering things each day including navigating within this society with CPTSD.

New Goal

I was sitting at work today with no work to do and decided to see if February’s #6WordsBetter prompt list had been posted. I was excited to see that it was! Then I decided to snoop through that pages recent posts and stumbled across a ‘reading journal’ post. What the? I would have never thought in a MILLION years that this was something that could be journaled. Earlier today I was on BUZZFEED and found a link to different lists of books that you should read. I was perusing the list and found that I must be living under a rock. NO! WAIT! I was working two jobs, seven days a week and before that, I read but can’t remember thanks to C-PTSD. But the list helped me choose some books.

SO-I set a goal I didn’t even know I wanted…READ MORE! I already have plans this weekend to get back into watercolor painting and doing some doodling and decided what the hell?! I can make a reading journal/log of my own. I have time. Now I already built my list and wanted to start reading but I will either leave it to be done before bed so my stomach will settle down (I hope I’m not coming down with something) or wait to go to the library and get a book. I could get online and start right away but I’m not feeling good and want the satisfaction of actually turning the page.

So, I’m going to update my agenda book with February’s prompt words and try and figure out where to start on my list. To be a good writer reading is a must. To hone an artistic skill practice make it better. Have you thought about doing something new or picking something back up? I encourage you to do so. IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT IT IS.

Here’s my list in case you would like to see what I’m going to tackle.
