Menace Doodle Bug

Last night at the event that I attended our kind host was telling me about this huge renaissance fair that happens every year and how people from all over show up to attend. It’s MASSIVE. This got me to thinking about some of the bugs that could’ve caused problems and then it hit me. The flea! I have had my dealings with these hopping little buggers from living in the south but where I live now I rarely even see them. Although, I’ve been warned about eating squirrel in these parts because of fleas. One thing that I have learned is that dawn dish soap works wonders!

Mother Bug doodles

After feeling like a failing mother and then learning that my daughter is pregnant I thought that would be a good theme to use while I catch up on my doodles. One thing that the past few weeks have taught me is that even though I can teach them about life the best I can, I can’t control their actions. They have to learn from their mistakes.

Earwig

I chose this one because from what I read they build a safe nest but when she feels that she and her family are in danger she’ll move ALL of them. She will even baby-bird them by chewing the food for them.

8/15: Earwig

The Mother Bug

I have never heard of such a thing but it looks like a normal beetle. The White-margined Burrower is considered to have maternal instincts. She will throw herself in harm’s way in the burrow if a predator is to invade their home but also brings them seeds for dinner.

8/13: Doodle Hairy Pie

I started out wanting to do doodle something that I haven’t seen before…foreign if you will. Let me just say my hats off to my readers inĀ Australia. I have seen videos online about the monstrous sized creatures of the insect kind. Normally bugs don’t bother me but this one is different. I don’t know if it’s because it looks like it’s judging me for all my bad life decisions or it’s trying to square up with me. I just googled ‘hairy bugs’ and this came across my image search. I wouldn’t mind seeing one in person as long as it doesn’t look like Mr. T and asking me if I have a problem. What are y’alls thoughts? Any weird bug images or stories you would like to share?

Hairy Backed Pie Dish Beetle

Common (doodle)Bugs

I thought about common bugs that I would see all the time in Texas. However nostalgic as the memories were I still had the urge to grab a fly-swatter or bug spray.

8/2 Doodlebug: Giraffe Weevil

Have you ever seen these creatures? I mean seriously…EVIL is in the name (giraffe weevil). I tried to make it look cute but what I created was a thing of nightmares. It looks like it has talons! I giggled at the finished creepy doodle. I’ll try for something else tomorrow as my tooth is killing me (yay appointment tomorrow) and I’m going to bed.

Doodle(s)wash: June to July and the Damn Humidity!

I know, I am SUPER behind on a lot of stuff. Catching up slowly is what I do best. I only wish that I could control the humidity. The paper buckled and soaked up all the water. Even when working quickly it was difficult. Maybe I should take up using markers instead? And SUPER irritated with WP not creating my gallery of images. GRR.

6/30 Party
When I think of party the image of balloons on mailboxes came to mind.
7/1 Sunny Days
I tried a new concept. It didn’t turn out like I wanted but happy with my attempt.
7/2 Delicious Foods
I think being on a diet everything looks delicious. Pie it is.

Doodle(s)wash: 6/29

I was super excited about today’s prompt simply because I could put a steampunk spin on it. Absolutely adore all things steampunk and I think a parasol (in place of today’s prompt) is in that alley. Now I’m off to try and see if I can stay within my points for a dinner out with the family. Fingers crossed I can stay away from the bread basket.

Prompt: Umbrella

Doodle(s)wash: 6/22

I wanted to achieve something fun and quick after such a shi%*# day. Swamped at work, lost 6 hours of work, then my supervisor was appalled when I told him that if I’m to do someone else’s job then I need a day or two break from my duties. I just know it’s going to end up being a meeting but if I’m going to need to do art for two departments I need allotted time AND compensated in pay. So, I will work on the Fenton Project and then attend the first writing class.

Prompt: Lemonade

Doodle(s)wash: 6/17

I took time from the stress of and did a quick doodle and watercolor. The one line doodle is a tribute to the bell pepper that tried to take my finger. The purple hull peas watercolor has a special place in my heart. My grandmother would harvest bushels of these peas for us kids to hull during the summer and we would enjoy them through the winter. I remember my fingers were both sore and purple but I would give anything to be on the porch with her and my dad again hulling peas. And WP is still giving me issues…GRR.

Prompt Word: Vegetable

Bell Pepper
Purple Hull Peas

Doodle(s)wash: 6/13

Today was a day that I needed to keep busy and my mind off the fact the tomorrow is now the dreaded weigh in day. Worrying about being a failure just ate through me until I started writing the story that’s gotten away from me. I did quick doodles and paints to get back to writing. Today’s prompt is one that I actually have growing in my very small experimental garden. I think I might be successful with it. We’ll see. Oh, still keeping with the one line and dots for the doodles…super proud that I am making a small effort.

Prompt: Watermelon

Doodle(s)wash: 6/12

Posting a little late. Miner emergency fixed and then my husband wanted to discuss a new conspiracy theory. Now he’s off researching some of the plausible points that I made and isn’t too happy. I have been working hard on a story that was supposed to be short but when I’m done I think I’m going to have to break it up into smaller posts. I did a little research into today prompt and discovered that there are more to rocks than just it being a rock. I’m not a geologist but have a new found respect for the field. Rock on geologist (yup, pun intended).

Prompt Word: Rocks

Doodle(s)wash: 6/11

Today’s prompt was a little upbeat one that gave me a chance to think back to when my dad would man the grill. He would put beer in the BBQ sauce, ‘This is the secret that people ask for without knowing.’ Looking back, that was sound advice that really doesn’t have to do with food. But food, beer, and trusting company is a great way to get problems off your chest without knowing it’s needed.

Prompt Word: Barbecue

Doodle(s)wash: 6/10

Today is an overcast cloudy day. One of those that almost demand movies and a bed. I decided that I would paint and write a little instead. Today’s prompt reminded me of home so much. It was served on the porch, at crawfish boils, even kept in the fridge as a staple (no matter what time of the year and always sweetened). But my absolute favorite time to have a glass was with my father when I was a little girl watching the lightning bugs.

Prompt Word: Iced Tea

Doodle(s)wash: 6/5

I am just furious with myself and I about gave up on dieting. I was microwaving one of my ‘diet approved’ meals and when pulling it out the lava contents went all over my right hand. This is an issue as I’m right-handed. My husband was a little dumbfounded that I was more worried about painting than my hand. I knew the degree of the burn and all it would be sore and tender. I couldn’t paint as long as I wanted to and I wanted to add WAY more detail but it was all fun. I think I’m going to practice galaxies too. Yup…still on my diet but it’s starting to get violent!

The doodle is still one line and dots and the balloon. I’m in LOVE with my balloon! I tried to capture a steampunk feel because I love all things steampunk and very happy with the finished piece.

Doodle(s)wash Prompt: Hot Air Balloon

Doodle(s)wash: 6/4

I got home and just crashed. Not because I was physically tired but emotionally drained. I completely read the prompt wrong so my doodle is different(still one line and dots) from the watercolor. That, I just did what the brush wanted me to do or rather, what I needed to do. It was one of the most freeing painting experiences I have had in a long time. Today it was all about everything that I had to control and what other people control me. Tonight I sat down and just let it happen. I looked at and thought, ‘it is what it is but I let the brush and paper have their moment in the sun.’

Doodle(s)wash Prompt: Wildlife (I read wildfire at first)
