The Saturday errands on a Friday night is stressful especially when everyone else in the town. All of which have the same mentality about getting everything done before the ice and snow settle in. During errands, everyone got hungry and we made a quick stop at McDonald’s. And WOW! When did McDonald’s food have NO FLAVOR! I had one of the worst salads EVER and the fries were bland. Anywho…my son pulled the kitty toy out of his pocket. Talk about being supportive. This is tonight’s picture. Happy Friday Y’all!
Ugh, the snow…and snow…AND MORE SNOW! Ran errands, took the kid to work and shoveled the walks. I was happy to make an image with this cute little guy wearing oversized glasses. He’s literally 1/2″ tall and I had the most difficult time getting my cell phone to focus on him. I’ve learned where I take photos here at the kitchen table the lights cause yellowing in the photos. Even though I edit a lot of that out I need to really devote some time to figuring out lighting tricks and extras. The custom color palette is listed below from left to right. Happy Wednesday!
My daughter had a really good idea after I lit a candle and I wish I had worked more with the angle of the cell phone. It was a tight squeeze with the candle, incense burner, and the shadow. I wanted to try my hand at another dramatically edited image and this was a great opportunity. I’m REALLY happy with the final image.
I’ve been busy since Saturday morning and looks like there isn’t any slowing down into next week. Add ANOTHER snowstorm on top of everything just adds more time for things to get done. My photo for today was actually taken last night. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity of trying my hand at both dark photography and fire. I couldn’t get the streaks of flames to happen even after working with the pro settings in my phone.
This was taken at the Disting event that my husband, son and I attended and I’m glad that we did. More on that later, I’m tired and will be catching up on comments and emails in the morning. Have a great and safe evening Y’all.
This morning while running errands my husband thought it would be best to feed me. I was hangry and he thought it would be a public service. I was trying to capture one of those awesome moody ‘lifestyle’ coffee moments. I’m not quite there and will find more information but I did pull out my phone and let everyone in this small town stare at me while I tried to capture the perfect shot. I like the coffee palette of warm colors that were available from this picture.

Oh Oh…I have some new action toys/figures to use when I’m running out of ideas. I was so excited about the flood of ideas that came to me that I wanted to shoot them all today. I practiced restraint. Now, I’m on a mission for more cool little toys and figures. Happy Saturday Y’all and be creative or do something that brings you calming happiness.
Yup, trying to get creative again and seeing something interesting in everyday things that aren’t that interesting. I looked around the house because we’re under another wind chill warning with temps dipping into ‘I’m expecting penguins to come through the door and ask me what’s for dinner degrees’ and seen this. My boring brown curtains with a diamond pattern and the colors that were coming through was unexpected. Between the ice, snow, light, and reflection I caught a rainbow of colors. Hex codes are below. Happy Friday Y’all.
I’m awfully exhausted (but I predicted an exhausting week with my schedule) for some reason so my photo was done quickly, however, I did scout for a subject. I was trying to work quickly because I was already losing what little light there was in this state. Winter is always so dark and drab. Even when the sun is out it’s just an obnoxious depressing feeling. I want to shoot stairs but there really aren’t any architecturally cool ones in my town. There are some apartments that are pretty old so I guess I’m going to be the designated random person that walks in, shoot with a cell phone and walks out.
I choose this one particular because I wanted to be mindful of the grid on my smartphone’s camera app. This building looks like it could invitingly eat a person even during the summer but when it’s dreary out it looks more like a ‘nope’ situation. The light in the lower left corner of the building makes you wonder who or what is there. This structure is actually an assisted living facility that is under new management for the 5th time in 7 years that I’ve lived here. There’s got to be a reason but it’s almost like everyone signed a gag order.
I encourage you to do something that helps you be creative today. If I can get out there and try so can you. Even if it means taping 2 toothpicks together and calling it a house. Happy Wednesday Y’all!

Day 32 but February 1st. I almost put that it was the first day because it’s the first month. I’m tired and exhausted. I really shot this ‘from the hip’. My husband was driving us to dinner and I demanded that he stopped the car. I thought where we were sitting it was framed nicely and the beautiful colors were a breath of fresh air after almost an entire week of Polar Vortex colors. Color palette (custom as I wanted to catch as many beautiful colors as I could) hex codes are listed left to right. Have a great night everyone. Now I’m going to overthink my comic for tomorrow.
Last day of the month which means I nailed the first month of my 365-day project. It’s also one of the worst days that I’ve had at work and the subject of choice always makes me feel better. There seems to be so much more understanding and compassion in her eyes than the people around me at times. This little pit bull girl is something that I can always come home to and be unconditionally loved. No talking, no questions, just her and me. I tried taking this with a fisheye external lens but it was so blurry that I’m beginning to think these lenses were a waste of money. But in all fairness, I’m not familiar with them yet and I have 11 months to figure them out. The color palette is listed below from left to right as always.

I can see some improvement but how am I going to do 334 more days of this?
Y’all! BUBBLES ARE HARD TO PHOTOGRAPH WITH A CELL PHONE! A million shots later I chose this one. I think the blurred bubble in the foreground was in a great position with the smaller bubble in focus. I wanted to get the bubbles to freeze outside on the snow and reflect light. You know all that pretty stuff but I didn’t have any corn syrup. Yup, this dieting girl doesn’t have a lot of that stuff left in the house. Instead, I brought the bubble show inside and an hour later voila! I might revisit the bubble idea but it’s too cold outside.
Today was a day to stay inside and trying to find something that piqued my interest to even attempt to photograph was challenging. It’s dark in the house with the sunblocking curtains and the plastic we put over the windows (obviously UNDER the curtain) before WINTER STORM BETH moves her subzero-blizzard-bringing ass to town this evening. Last minute errands are a must just in case we are snowed in. I found a sliver of light and the amber of the owl gives a nice warm ambiance. Obviously, again, I used a monochromatic palette all warm colors.
This morning I completed my doodle comic for week 4 and it turned out better than I expected. I just hope that I get inspiration for my next comic. After that was done, it was time to run my Saturday errands IN the -°22F weather. It was awful. On the way home I saw these trees. Even though humans mutilated the branches so electric can run to houses it looked like it stood defiantly and grew wings. Oh, I also got a chance to use my 2x zoom lens on my phone. I need the EXTRA zoom lens. Ugh, it is what it is.
The temperatures are dropping to a deathly cold -°32 starting tonight into tomorrow. I left to drop the kiddos off for their sister only dinner and it was °22 and 45 minutes later it was °16 NOT including windchills. I decided that I would try to take an image earlier than usual but still getting dark. I thought this picture captured the pure cold and bitterness outside but a warm hearth family inside. Try to contrast cold and warm in a photo and I thought it turned out better than I expected.
This is going to be quick as I’m exhausted dealing with snow, work, kids, you know life in general. I’m not feeling too good about weigh-in tomorrow so I’m going to head to bed and sleep my worries away.
I did a little research today and learned some things about cell phone photography and a little about Instagram. Being the evening time and trying to prepare dinner for the family and the snow storm coming in made for some busy streets in this small town. I am totally in love with the Friday night lights on the main street in this photo. We were able to snag a parking spot right in front of the town’s only liquor store. We got there in between people stocking up for the storm even though it’s moving out as quickly as coming in and nevermind roads will be plowed come morning. Love the subtle nod to my favorite whiskey…do you see it? I did find some other great lights at night images to take but we had to get back and I couldn’t handle being out and about when EVERYONE else was. Could I be falling in love with this town? It could never hold a candle to where and how I grew up but I can see the charm. I have no idea about the color palette but I like the regal brightness I could capture. Codes are below left to right.
I have never wanted to throw my phone in a field so hard and far in my life! I just wanted to try and capture a decent sunset image. I swear this small town was purposely built to not see a decent sunset from ANY corner of its boundaries! I did settle on this one and was able to get a really bright complimentary palette. Hex codes for the colors are listed in order from left to right.
It’s freezing outside. I don’t mean freezing, but F-R-E-E-Z-I-N-G! With temps dipping into the lower single negative digits and my eyes still feeling a little burn and blur from the dye I thought I would try a little up close photos without a macro lens. I decided that I need to get a mini tripod for my phone and a macro lens. I’m working my way towards certain gear. You can help by just buying me a coffee. Moving on, tonight’s photo (because I AM A WINTER WEINIE and I’ll own that) is a bracelet of Odin’s ravens taken indoors with minor editing. The color palette I’m absolutely in love with because it reminds me of an old detective movie. Oh, I do down save the images for better loading time across devices and to save on media space. I’m wondering though, am I developing a certain style? Should I go outside the comfort zone with editing?
My husband assisted in driving me around so I can continue my project. I had my eye exam this afternoon and had my eyes dilated for the first time. That sums up what I was able to see. I picked this image because the colors were easy for me to decipher shapes with my dilated pupils. I think I was even able to nail an analogous color palette. Hex colors are listed below from left to right. Off to bed to rest my eyes…more on that later. Have a great evening.
The weather here in Wisconsin (or at least my area) is SUPER icky right now. Cold, wet, rainy, and windy doesn’t exactly scream for me to get out of the car. I figured the only way to get better at taking photos at night with my phone is to get out there and do it! Trying to work with framing, composition and figuring out lighting options on my phone proved to be a difficult task. Especially when I’m trying to capture photos without someone calling the cops on me (yeah I live in that kind of town). I think this would be a monochromatic palette or Analogous. I’m not going to lie it’s giving me a bit of anxiety trying to figure out which one. The hex codes are below from left to right. Have a great night everyone!
I think I’m going to have to rearrange my calendar. Saturdays are the worst for me to try and get anything done because that is the day that my husband and I use to get chores and errands done. I’m going to start with my Day 5 of my 365-Day project. I finished the Skillshare class to help me better my cell phone photography. I have a couple more I want to watch and there are things that I would like to get. If you would like to help please buy me a coffee or search my Amazon wish list. Anything will help. Let’s move on.
So the class project wanted the students to photograph their town. This was tough because my town isn’t all that great. As in, when we get our stuff together we are moving out of this town. This image was the only one that I felt comfortable sharing. I was only comfortable going out and looking weird taking photos because my youngest daughter was there for support. The hex codes for my color palette choice is below from left to right.
