365 Day Project: 51

Ugh, the snow…and snow…AND MORE SNOW! Ran errands, took the kid to work and shoveled the walks. I was happy to make an image with this cute little guy wearing oversized glasses. He’s literally 1/2″ tall and I had the most difficult time getting my cell phone to focus on him. I’ve learned where I take photos here at the kitchen table the lights cause yellowing in the photos. Even though I edit a lot of that out I need to really devote some time to figuring out lighting tricks and extras. The custom color palette is listed below from left to right. Happy Wednesday!

365 Day Project: 50

Wow! Day 50 leaving 315 days left. I would like to say that I’m improving but I’m also biased and to close to the project (any feedback from fellow cell phone photographers would be greatly appreciated). So, we have another snow system moving in tomorrow and then another one over the weekend so that would make it snow storm #455ninerWTF! I’m trying to get used to finding obsolete objects or figure to photograph with not being able to drive around and scout a location.

Tonight I chose the VW van toy car and took it outside while the snow and ice melted in certain areas of the driveway. The image SCREAMED for me to use a grainy retro filter and I think it’s the cutest thing ever! I wish I had thought to grab my micro lens but I had a difficult time getting my cell phone camera to focus on the car by itself. I know if I had a lens there was no way I could have gotten a decent focus.

365 Day Project: 48

Let me set the situation stage here. My stomach HATES me right now, two older kids visiting friends, and I don’t feel like cooking breakfast. My husband takes us all out to iHop and the only thing I needed to do was get myself ready. We get there and my son surprises me with a ‘Joker in Disguise’ toy figure. ‘Mom, you can use this one today.’ The family is really starting to get into helping me find something to photograph and especially the toy macro photos.

My son sat next to me and we were trying to figure out the best pose and place for Joker to have his photo taken. We were placing him on syrup and looking at the menu and my husband suggested how about Joker with a fork. Y’all, we were having so much fun when I heard, ‘She’s got an extra lens on her phone trying to capture her 5 minutes of fame.’ Then some other comments about being one of the Instagram idiots and so on. I immediately started to put everything away when my little knight in shining armor blurts out, ‘What is hurting you for my mom to do this? Nothing. Ignorance isn’t an excuse to judge others.’ After which my husband turned and said, ‘Other people can hear you’re a judgemental person including my 9-year old that has more couth than you.’ They quickly left afterward with my son mean-mugging them the whole way.

A proud mommy moment when that phrase, ‘Ignorance isn’t an excuse to judge others,’ was understood by my son. Goodness knows I’ve told him that several times but it’s a lesson he has learned and demonstrated a great opportunity to teach someone the same lesson. My husband, on the other hand, surprised me. Usually, he would rise to the occasion of heated arguments but I think with our son doing what he did kind of put things into perspective for him.

This image has a lot of meaning. I know it’s supposed to tell a story by itself but there was so much more happening behind the scenes. I have more confidence in public to take photos thanks to my son, more patient thanks to my husband, and a little proud that I’m doing something right as a parent.

As for the photo I practiced framing the shot using the rule of thirds and wanted it to have a dramatic effect. The color palette I’m calling custom because I was able to pull out the classic Joke and Batman colors.

I had to take my daughter to work since my husband is working late tonight. It even hurts my stomach to drive. UGH, and it’s really starting to annoy me. By the hospital is a little junk/salvage yard that seems to be closed more than it is opened. I wanted to play with the editing filters in snapseed and perspective blue. I like the bright dramatic touch the end image has and the complementary color palette is warm even though the subject is cold (there’s a lot of snow). Happy Friday guys! I’m working on catching up on things from my bed 🙂

365 Day Project: 44

So I thought that I would try another action figure for today’s photo. None of my dogs wanted to cooperate and look like they were trying to eat the toy. Instead, it looks like the Fortnite figure, Ragnarok (I just learned the name) is sneaking up on Dublin (yup actual doggy name). Now I think the name of the character is fitting. This made my day just that much better and the atmosphere from work disappear. I need more figures and ideas. Hit the coffee button so I can get more figures and gear for photos this year. I have the T Rex and the VW van so ideas would be greatly appreciated too. I need to look into easy mobile lighting gear for on the go with the cell to better light some of my shots. Hex codes for a semi-complimentary color palette are listed below from left to right. Happy Wednesday Y’all.

365 Day Project: 42

I don’t know why tonight was so difficult? I couldn’t concentrate on my end goal. I have been running around trying to get everything in order for the storm coming in tonight and after work hours stress could also have something to do with it. My husband was patient with me as we drove around trying to find something that piqued my interest. Then we both saw the shadows from the fencing and the light and thought it would be perfect. What do y’all think? The hex codes for an awesome ‘twilight’ feel for this analogous color palette is listed below from left to right as always.

Lunchtime Fun Continued…

I guess one good thing about the job that I loathe to work at is the downtime. I’m not that busy today and looked up another technique and style to try. You know me I love to learn new things. I’m so intrigued by the cutout appearance. I have so many ideas that I want to try out and I think I need to start making lists because I have so many ideas for the toy figures and photos I want to take. Is it just me or do the purples look like they’re moving?

365 Day Project: 41

I’ve been busy since Saturday morning and looks like there isn’t any slowing down into next week. Add ANOTHER snowstorm on top of everything just adds more time for things to get done. My photo for today was actually taken last night. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity of trying my hand at both dark photography and fire. I couldn’t get the streaks of flames to happen even after working with the pro settings in my phone.

This was taken at the Disting event that my husband, son and I attended and I’m glad that we did. More on that later, I’m tired and will be catching up on comments and emails in the morning. Have a great and safe evening Y’all.

365 Day Project: 39

Yup, trying to get creative again and seeing something interesting in everyday things that aren’t that interesting. I looked around the house because we’re under another wind chill warning with temps dipping into ‘I’m expecting penguins to come through the door and ask me what’s for dinner degrees’ and seen this. My boring brown curtains with a diamond pattern and the colors that were coming through was unexpected. Between the ice, snow, light, and reflection I caught a rainbow of colors. Hex codes are below. Happy Friday Y’all.
