Equality is in the eye of the owner…

It’s no surprise that I have been struggling with the employer/company that I am with. I can’t tell you how many times I heard from one of the company’s owners, ‘promote unity’ or seen signs referring to ‘equality’ but I saw first hand that is ALL a bunch of bull. I’m one of those people that say, ‘Don’t piss on my head and tell me it’s raining.’ Crude statement? Sure, but it’s as blunt as I can put it because people don’t seem to understand don’t dress up an ugly situation (inequality, rudeness, etc…) to make it pretty. Pretty much quit lying.

My kids’ school has what they call a late start. This is just what it sounds like. The school offers a program that the parent has to pay to use if they cannot find alternative supervision or arrangements for their children. My son forgot one morning that it was a late start and left for school. The older siblings forgot as well but decided to go to breakfast with their friends. This is where my son chose to go to the school’s ‘before’ school program and in turn, the school sent me a bill. Insert most dramatic eye roll while paying a bill. The school promotes late start but can make money if the parents can’t make other arrangements. See what happened there? Now the kids and I have our reminders set and it sounds like a bomb is fixin’ to detonate those mornings.

This week, I was walking into the office to return color-up request paperwork when I saw a young child around my son’s age sitting next to one of our CSRs. Me being the nosey person I asked if he belonged to her and if everything is OK. She is one of the individuals that I don’t mind going the extra mile for as she has done the same for me. Here we are, during work hours, her son sits and she also gets to leave to take him to school on the late start morning.

EVERY MOTHER in that place has had to make special arrangements right down to missing work to take care of their children. Why was she allowed to be the one person that’s allowed to bring her child and then leave 2 hours later to take him to school? Then I realized that equality is in the eye of the company’s owner. I didn’t directly take my anger and frustration out on her but I definitely didn’t go out of my way for custom work. So much so that I made her do her job and ask the client for the original work.

What does one do in that situation?

Still working on building my portfolio…

Happy Friday Everyone

This is a doodle from my Inktober failure. It brings a smile to my face and thought it would for y’all too.

Inktober Day 2: Midnight Deadline

I have a little one home sick with a fever and I literally took 20 minutes to myself to get these done before midnight. They aren’t the best but I did it. I added the devil to my larger project and a quick doodle of a book, coffee cup, and image in the steam.

6 Word Story: 10/2

I woke up a little earlier than normal so I can write and draw. Unfortunately, I only have time for one since I forced myself to get on the treadmill for 15 minutes. Tonight I think the family will survive and can fend for themselves. I already have a vision in mind of what I would like to draw but it’s the execution I’m intimidated by. What is today’s prompt to you?

Prompt: Tranquil

Create what you need for peace.

Inspiring and Intimidating Inktober

I first heard about Inktober a couple of months ago at a get-together. I thought that would be interesting as I participated in World Watercolor Month (July). I needed a few things and even though money is SUPER tight at the moment I was able to get a few items that were a must. I looked at any groups of Facebook, checked my Instagram (since I haven’t for a while), and did more research. I already saw MANY snide and rude comments that almost sealed the deal for me to back out. My friend that I helped that one morning wanted to do a separate prompt list and asked if I would participate with her. I like the idea of having an accountability buddy and knew that I would definitely need one since ink is NOT my medium of choice. And as my usual ‘bite off more than I can chew’ true self, I decided to do two projects. Confusing? Here it goes:

Inktober’s Offical prompt list is in black and the one that my friend wants to do is in orange. Please be patient…WP doesn’t want me to create any galleries (as usual grr).

Inktober Prompt List
Halloween Prompts

So far my sketchbook for Inktober’s official prompt list looks like this:

My Intro Page
I learned in my study of Asatru that the death of Baldur was caused by Loki and Mistletoe. So for the first prompt, I chose to draw Mistletoe.

Now for my larger project idea. The second list I am going to try and incorporate each prompt into ONE larger image. I already have most of the prompts mapped out. I just hope I can pull it off.

Day 1 Ghost and I added a 2018 ribbon.

This is where you draw with ink. You can either choose to follow the prompt list or make your own up. I’m doing a little bit of both and will post here in a little bit about it. I thought since that I’m already following one prompt list, why not follow the same for my 6-word stories?

Prompt: Poisonous

Thoughts can be healing or cancerous.

Odds, Ends and Ink

I have been trying to write some of this post for two days now but I’m swamped at work and it doesn’t end when I get home. I managed to get dinner in the crockpot this morning and write my 6 words but I arrived a little early at work so I have a moment to write.

Can you believe it’s been 4 years since I registered my blog? 4? Where did all this time go? I haven’t been writing an entire 4 years but looking back I’ve been through a lot and glad that everyone has been with me on my journey and given such great advice, warm comments, and awesome support. Thank you, everyone.

As you know I’ve been kicking around the idea of participating in Inktober. I have been really intimidated by all the people that I see posting amazing thumbnails that they haven’t even inked yet. Another factor adding to me nervousness is that I have never work in ink. Watercolor, acrylic, graphite, and even charcoal, yes but ink, no. I have some India ink that I have never used and will be using that. I need to get a couple of different brushes and markers, notebook, and a large pad. The friend that needed to talk the other morning has really opened up and has been using the pens that I got for her. I asked her if she would like to do Inktober. Now, I have an accountability buddy but it benefits her as well. She has an idea of creating 31 days of ink drawings following a Halloween theme on one large paper. I’m in but I also want to do Inktober’s prompt list. What does that mean? Either I combine the two or do two separate. I don’t know which yet but a combining the two, for example, would give me the prompt of a poisonous ghost. How cool would that be? Or a tranquil devil?

Weekend Internet Break

I didn’t write this weekend but it doesn’t mean I wasn’t productive. We live in the city and there are really STRICT rules about having fires and sitting around them. I have also been missing open pit cooking like we used to do back home if we weren’t smoking meat. I was able to save for a setup that killed two birds with one trip to the local Lowes. I was even able to get everyone in our family camping chairs at a decent price along with lap throws since it was a bit chilly. Saturday we enjoyed ribs, corn, and vegetables cooked over an open fire and later smores over our fire pit. The kids had so much fun and ate so much food. Our neighbors looked at us either envious or as if we were weird. Either way, we welcomed fall with food family and fire.

We learned real quick that we needed another source for firewood. Yes, we can purchase wood precut at the store but they charge an arm and a leg so we started looking on Facebook. I was able to locate a gentleman 10-minute drive from the house and it was free. On the way there though we saw some really awesome wooden statues things. I don’t know how to describe them. They would make a great plot line for a horror genre type of story. We’re going to go back and talk to the owner this weekend to see if he is selling anything and if so what are the prices.

Sunday are usually the days I try to do maintenance on my blog and attempt something artistic but instead I attempted canning. I purchase a bunch of apples to make homemade apple butter and applesauce. Do you realize what a flipping pain it is to peel apples? I went to Walmart for an apple peeling/corer combo but nope so everything was done by hand. I let the crockpot do all the cooking but then it came time to jar these boogers up. I had to sterilize them in the oven because I don’t have a dishwasher so a lot of hoping and praying that the jars didn’t bust was happening. I had no funnel and made a huge sticky mess all over my pot holders because EVERYTHING is supposed to be hot. 12 hours later I had 3 jars of apple butter. The seals finally popped around 10pm last night.

Inktober will be coming up and I have about a week or rather 6 days to decide if I want to participate. Normally I would but I have a haunted road trip planned and I don’t want to bite off more than I can chew which we ALL know that I’m really good at that. I’m going to try and stay positive this week and have fun. I hope ya’ll can too.
